Patricia Street Deli Meet Us

Humble Beginnings

Glen and Wendy

What began as a simple dream slowly grew into something truly meaningful.

For more than 20 years, Glen and Wendy have poured their hearts into building a life—and a small deli—in the heart of Jasper. Through long days, steady work, and a lot of care, they created a place that reflects who they are and the community they love.

When Patricia Street Deli opened in 2004, Glen had a straightforward goal: do the simple things well. He never set out to build an empire—just a humble spot serving honest food, made fresh, and offered with a smile. No frills, no fuss—just good ingredients, warm bread, and a genuine welcome.

Over time, that little sandwich shop became a gathering place. Locals stopped in to catch up, hikers came to warm up after long days in the mountains, and visitors from around the world found a familiar, friendly place to land.

Wendy became the heart of the deli—the kind presence who made people feel cared for the moment they walked in. Glen, with his easy humor and warmth, treated everyone like a regular, whether it was their first visit or their hundredth.

Together, they built more than a business. They built a space where food is shared, stories are told, and people feel at home. Patricia Street Deli has grown alongside Jasper, and it remains, at its core, a locally owned mom-and-pop shop—grateful for the community that has supported it every step of the way.

The Fire

Patrica Street Deli Aftermath

On July 22, a raging wildfire changed their lives forever.

For more than 20 years, Glen and Wendy had built a life in Jasper—one shaped by hard work, perseverance, and deep love for their community. What they created was never about scale or ambition, but about showing up every day and doing things the right way. Through resilience, sacrifice, and countless long days, they weathered uncertainty, survived COVID, and navigated ongoing financial challenges with quiet determination.

Patricia Street Deli had become a staple in Jasper.
For so many, it was a home away from home.
A place of belonging.
A place filled with memories and nostalgia for those who had passed through the mountains and found comfort within its walls.

And in a single heartbeat, it was gone.

Every corner of the life that had defined them disappeared.
Their world went up in flames—swiftly.
A lifetime of work, reduced to ashes.

They were given little notice to evacuate. As fire closed in from every end of town, they gathered their three cats and fled. During the 1,500-kilometre drive to Edmonton, text messages, photos, and news updates arrived one by one—showing their town burning before their eyes.

There was hope, and the longing for a miracle—but beneath it all was the quiet understanding that the outcome would be devastating.

Sitting in their vehicle, surrounded by uncertainty and fear, they made a simple decision through tears: home is wherever I’m with you. Their love remained solid and profound. Even in grief and the unknown, they stayed grateful—always searching for the small gifts still present in the wreckage.

Seven months passed after the fire destroyed the business. Eventually, Wendy, Glen, Dustin, and Jaimie knew it was time to begin again. As a family business—and a fiercely committed team—they felt ready to return to what we did best: making sandwiches, memories, and friends.

They had made a 570-square-foot shop work in Jasper. Now, they were given the chance to rebuild in Edmonton, in a community-centred space four times the size. A place where guests could finally sit down, share a meal, have a cold beer, and linger over soup and a sandwich

Still, they moved forward with the same belief that had carried them all along: that community, kindness, and good food could rebuild what fire had taken.

This family is so happy to make Edmonton home!

Why Edmonton

Why Edmonton

After months of reflection and support from family, friends, and their Jasper community, Glen and Wendy made a brave decision — to turn heartbreak into hope. Edmonton felt like the perfect place to begin again: a city full of energy, kindness, and opportunity, where their story could continue to grow while staying rooted in the spirit of Jasper.

The new Patricia Street Deli will carry forward everything people loved about the original — the warmth, the laughter, the feeling of belonging — while adding fresh seasonal flavours, expanded catering, and community events designed to bring people together.

For Glen and Wendy, this isn’t about starting over. It’s about continuing a legacy built on resilience, love, and connection. They see Edmonton not as an ending, but as a new beginning — where the spirit of the mountains meets the heartbeat of the city.

Patricia Street Deli has always been about more than food. It’s about people — the stories shared, the friendships formed, and the comfort of feeling at home. Now, that same heart and soul are finding a new home in Edmonton — ready to welcome both old friends and new faces with open arms and something special in every bite.

The Next Generation: Dustin & Jaimie

Dustin and Jamie working together

This photo of Dustin and Jaimie says it all — the teamwork, the respect, the rhythm. But what it doesn’t show is the depth of the story behind it.

During the COVID years, when times were toughest, they showed up without hesitation. Dustin quietly sent money to keep creditors at bay and built systems that helped the business stay afloat. Jaimie balanced two jobs, a family, and still found the time to manage the books, streamline operations, and help rebuild stronger foundations.

They never asked for anything in return — they just kept showing up, driven by love and belief in what their family had built.

When fires hit Jasper in 2022, Dustin flew home from South America to help, and Jaimie drove out on weekends to keep things running. Their energy lifted Glen and Wendy when exhaustion and uncertainty set in.

By 2023, hope had returned. Sales were up, the team was stronger, and the Deli was thriving again. That spring, Dustin and Jaimie officially became shareholders — the next generation ready to carry the torch.

Then came the wildfire. Twelve days after celebrating 20 years in business, they lost everything once more. But even in the face of devastation, Dustin and Jaimie didn’t hesitate. They rolled up their sleeves and got to work — long hours, no complaints, just quiet determination and love for what Patricia Street Deli stands for.

They believe in this place. They believe in their parents. And because of them, the Deli’s story continues.

To Dustin and Jaimie — we love you, we are endlessly proud, and we wouldn’t be here without you.

– Glen
